Liebe Men­schen,

heute am Mon­tag, 13.07.2026, um 20:15 Uhr erwartet euch die Doku­men­ta­tion “On the Bor­der” zu Europas Abschot­tungskonzepte um Migra­tion in Afri­ka nach Europa zu stop­pen in Koop­er­a­tion mit Flüchtlingsrat Thürin­gen e.V. bei uns am Kul­turschlachthof Jena open air im Hof. Als Ref­er­entin geladen ist Leonie Jantzer. Sie berichtet über die poli­tis­che Lage im Niger und ste­ht für Fra­gen zur Ver­fü­gung. Als Aktivistin von Alarme Phone Sahara und Afrique Europe Inter­act ver­fol­gt sie Migra­tions­be­we­gun­gen in der Sahel-Sahara-Region.
Der Input wird in Deutsch stat­tfind­en, lasst uns rechtzeit­ig wis­sen, wenn ihr eine (Flüster-) Über­set­zung in eine andere Sprache benötigt. Der Film wird in Deutsch, Franzö­sisch, Hausa, Tamashek mit deutschen Unter­titeln gezeigt. Wir nehmen einen sol­i­darischen Ein­tritt von 0 bis 15 €, bezahlt was ihr kön­nt. Dear peo­ple,

today on Mon­day, 13.07.2026, at 8:15 PM, join us for the screen­ing of the doc­u­men­tary “On the Bor­der”, which explores Europe’s bor­der con­trol strate­gies aimed at stop­ping migra­tion from Africa to Europe in coop­er­a­tion with the “Flüchtlingsrat Thürin­gen e.V. (Eng. Refugee Coun­cil Thuringia)” at the Kul­turschlachthof Jena, open air in the court­yard. Leonie Jantzer has been invit­ed as a guest speak­er. She will dis­cuss the polit­i­cal sit­u­a­tion in Niger and will be avail­able to answer ques­tions. As an activist with Alarme Phone Sahara and Afrique Europe Inter­act, she tracks migra­tion pat­terns in the Sahel-Sahara region.

The talk will be in Ger­man, please let us know in advance if you need (whis­pered) trans­la­tion into anoth­er lan­guage. The film will be shown in Ger­man, French, Hausa, and Tamashek with Ger­man sub­ti­tles. We are ask­ing for a sol­i­dar­i­ty-based admis­sion fee of 0 to 15 €, pay what you can. Die nomadis­chen Tuareg trans­portieren hier seit Jahrhun­derten Men­schen durch die Wüste – bis neue Geset­ze sie zu Schleusern erk­lären. Deutsch­land und Europa investieren Mil­lio­nen in die lokale Sicher­heit, die USA sta­tion­ieren Drohnen. Doch was brin­gen Gren­zkon­trollen ohne wirtschaftliche Per­spek­tiv­en für die Men­schen? Ein Bürg­er­meis­ter, eine Jour­nal­istin und ein Händler erzählen – bis ein Mil­itär­putsch 2023 alles verän­dert.

A thou­sand kilo­me­ters from the Mediter­ranean Sea, the desert city of Agadez has become an out­post of Euro­pean migra­tion pol­i­cy. For cen­turies, the nomadic Tuareg have been trans­port­ing peo­ple across the desert here – until new laws labeled them as human smug­glers. Ger­many and Europe are invest­ing mil­lions in local secu­ri­ty, and the U.S. is deploy­ing drones. But what good are bor­der con­trols with­out eco­nom­ic prospects for the peo­ple? A may­or, a jour­nal­ist, and a mer­chant share their sto­ries – until a mil­i­tary coup in 2023 changes every­thing.
