Im Film „Unruh“ kommt der rus­sis­che Kar­tograf Pyotr Kropotkin in ein Tal im Schweiz­er Jura, ange­lockt von der hochen­twick­el­ten Uhren­fer­ti­gung dort und von der Nachricht, dass sich Arbeiter:innen zu ein­er anar­chis­tis­chen Gew­erkschaft zusam­mengeschlossen haben. Er trifft auf eine Gesellschaft, in der Beamt:innen und Gendarm:innen über die richtige Uhrzeit wachen und dem Pro­duk­tions­be­trieb und der Gemein­schaft den Takt vorgeben. Mit sorgfältig kom­ponierten Bildern feiert dieser Film die Handw­erk­skun­st der Uhrma­cherei und verknüpft sie mit ein­er klaren poli­tis­chen Hal­tung.

Jonathan Eibisch gibt für den Film einen Input. Er ist als Lehrbeauf­trager und Ref­er­ent des Anar­chis­mus tätig. Er ist im Erzge­birge und Chem­nitz aufgewach­sen, studierte und pro­movierte in Jena und lebt in Leipzig. Von 2017 bis 2020
erhielt er ein Pro­mo­tion­sstipendi­um der Rosa-Lux­em­burg-Stiftung. 2024 veröf­fentlichte er im Tran­script-Ver­lag das Buch “Poli­tis­che The­o­rie des Anar­chis­mus, Zum para­dox­en Streben nach Autonomie, Selb­st­bes­tim­mung und Selb­stor­gan­i­sa­tion”.

Die Freie Arbeiter:innen Union (FAU) ist eine basis­gew­erkschaftliche Organ­i­sa­tion, die sich auf anar­chosyn­dikalis­tis­che
Prinzip­i­en stützt. Ihre Wurzeln reichen bis in die 1920er Jahre zurück, als sich die Freie Arbeit­er Union Deutsch­lands (FAUD) grün­dete und Teil rev­o­lu­tionär­er Kämpfe war. Nach der Zer­schla­gung durch die Nazis und einem kurzen Wieder­au­fleben nach dem Zweit­en Weltkrieg ent­stand in den 1970er Jahren mit der heuti­gen FAU eine neue Bewe­gung. Seit den 2000er Jahren tritt die FAU
ver­stärkt mit eige­nen Arbeit­skämpfen in Erschei­n­ung, vor allem in prekären und oft als “nicht organ­isier­bar” gel­tenden Branchen.

In Thürin­gen wurde 2007 die FAU Südthürin­gen (FAUST) gegrün­det, die etwa die Beset­zung des Nord­häuser Fahrrad­w­erks unter­stützte. Ab 2012 ver­lagerte sich der Schw­er­punkt nach Jena und Erfurt, später wurde daraus die FAU Jena. Seit­dem ist die FAU Jena aktiv in Arbeit­skämpfen, ins­beson­dere im Hochschul­bere­ich. 2013 beteiligte sie sich am Streik stu­den­tis­ch­er Hil­f­skräfte an der Friedrich-Schiller-Uni­ver­sität Jena und grün­dete eine Bil­dungssek­tion. Ein wichtiger Ort gew­erkschaftlich­er Arbeit ist das
2017 eröffnete FAU-Gew­erkschaft­slokal “Mil­ly Witkop” in Jena. Die FAU Jena ver­ste­ht sich als kämpferische, unab­hängige Gew­erkschaft, die sich vor allem für prekär Beschäftigte ein­set­zt. Bun­desweit wächst die Organ­i­sa­tion kon­tinuier­lich: 2019 waren rund 800 Mit­glieder organ­isiert, 2023 bere­its etwa 1600 – Ten­denz weit­er steigend.
Derzeit führt die FAU Jena mehrere Arbeit­skon­flik­te, der let­zte größere Kon­flikt war der “Eli”-Fall, bei dem ein Uni­ver­sität­sangestell­ter wegen Strafen im Zusam­men­hang mit zivilem Unge­hor­sam bei Klim­agerechtigkeit­sak­tio­nen rück­wirk­end nicht eingestellt wer­den sollte. Der Fall erfol­gte in enger Zusam­me­nar­beit mit z.B. ver.di und der Klimabe­we­gung und war sowohl
juris­tisch als auch öffentlich ein voller Erfolg.

In the movie “Unrest”, Russ­ian car­tog­ra­ph­er Pyotr Kropotkin arrives in a val­ley in the Swiss Jura, attract­ed by the high­ly devel­oped watch­mak­ing indus­try there and by the news that work­ers have formed an anar­chist union. He encoun­ters a soci­ety in which offi­cials and gen­darmes watch over the cor­rect time and set the pace for the pro­duc­tion plant and the com­mu­ni­ty. With care­ful­ly com­posed images, this film cel­e­brates the crafts­man­ship of watch­mak­ing and links it with a clear polit­i­cal stance.

Jonathan Eibisch pro­vides input for the movie. He works as a lec­tur­er and speak­er on anar­chism. He grew up in the Ore Moun­tains and Chem­nitz, stud­ied and com­plet­ed his PhD in Jena and lives in Leipzig. From 2017 to 2020
he received a PhD schol­ar­ship from the Rosa Lux­em­burg foun­da­tion. In 2024, he pub­lished the book “Polit­i­cal The­o­ry of Anar­chism, On the Para­dox­i­cal Striv­ing for Auton­o­my, Self-Deter­mi­na­tion and Self-Orga­ni­za­tion (En. transl.)” in the jour­nal Tran­script.

The Free Work­ers’ Union (FAU) is a grass­roots trade union orga­ni­za­tion based on anar­cho-syn­di­cal­ist prin­ci­ples. Its roots go back to the 1920s, when the Free Work­ers’ Union of Ger­many (FAUD) was found­ed and was part of rev­o­lu­tion­ary strug­gles. After being smashed by the Nazis and a brief revival after the Sec­ond World War, a new move­ment emerged in the 1970s in the form of today’s FAU. Since the 2000s, the FAU has become increas­ing­ly active with its own labour strug­gles, espe­cial­ly in pre­car­i­ous sec­tors that are often con­sid­ered “unor­ga­ni­z­able”.

In Thuringia, the Free Work­ers’ Union South Thuringia (FAUST) was found­ed in 2007, which sup­port­ed the occu­pa­tion of the Nord­hausen bicy­cle fac­to­ry, for exam­ple. From 2012, the focus shift­ed to Jena and Erfurt, lat­er becom­ing FAU Jena. Since then, FAU Jena has been active in labor dis­putes, par­tic­u­lar­ly in the uni­ver­si­ty sec­tor. In 2013, it took part in the strike by stu­dent assis­tants at the Friedrich Schiller Uni­ver­si­ty Jena and found­ed an edu­ca­tion sec­tion. An impor­tant place for trade union work is the FAU trade union locale “Mil­ly Witkop” in Jena, which opened in 2017. The FAU Jena sees itself as a com­bat­ive, inde­pen­dent trade union that pri­mar­i­ly cam­paigns on behalf of pre­car­i­ous work­ers. The orga­ni­za­tion is con­tin­u­ous­ly grow­ing nation­wide: in 2019, around 800 mem­bers were orga­nized, in 2023 already around 1600 — and the trend is still ris­ing.
FAU Jena is cur­rent­ly involved in sev­er­al labor dis­putes, the most recent major con­flict being the “Eli” case, in which a uni­ver­si­ty employ­ee was not to be hired retroac­tive­ly due to penal­ties in con­nec­tion with civ­il dis­obe­di­ence dur­ing cli­mate jus­tice actions. The case was brought in close coop­er­a­tion with ver.di and the cli­mate move­ment, for exam­ple, and was a com­plete suc­cess both legal­ly and pub­licly.
